How to Write a CV for Gulf Jobs

Your CV is the first impression a Gulf employer gets of you — and it usually decides whether you get an interview. The good news is that writing a strong CV for Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, or anywhere in the Gulf isn't complicated. It just requires a few specific adjustments to local hiring norms.
1. Keep it concise
Aim for one page if you have less than five years of experience, and a maximum of two pages otherwise. Recruiters scan, they don't read. Bullet points beat paragraphs every time.
2. Lead with a strong summary
Open with a 2–3 line professional summary that states your role, years of experience, and key strengths. Tailor it to the job you're applying for — generic summaries get ignored.
3. Highlight Gulf-relevant experience
If you've worked in the Gulf before, put that front and center. Mention the country and city. If you haven't, highlight any transferable experience — multinational employers, Arabic-language exposure, or work in regulated industries.
4. Use measurable achievements
Instead of "managed sales team," write "led a 12-person sales team that delivered 18% YoY growth." Numbers, percentages, and timelines turn vague duties into concrete wins.
5. Include practical details
Gulf CVs typically include nationality, current location, visa status, and languages spoken. These help recruiters quickly assess whether you're a fit for the role's requirements (some employers pre-screen by nationality or visa status).
6. Format and file type
Submit a clean PDF — never a Word document, which can render differently across systems. Use a single readable font (Calibri, Arial, or similar) at 10–11pt. Avoid heavy graphics; many Applicant Tracking Systems strip them out.
7. Tailor every application
Match keywords from the job description. If the listing says "ERP implementation," use that exact phrase if it's true of you. Generic CVs don't get past keyword filters.
8. Proofread twice
Spelling errors are a dealbreaker. Read your CV out loud, then ask someone else to review it. Small mistakes give a big negative signal.
